Gen X here, toward the They Might Be Giants Mickey Mouse shirt and I love this end of my previous career I started throwing up boundaries hard. No, I will not come in and work on the weekend when I worked all week. No, I will not stay late because of the company’s poor planning. I became the “no” girl and it was liberating. What was the reaction when you did this? Did they accept it or did you ‘get in trouble’? In my team we’d be seen as ‘negative’ and have a mark above our heads, so I’d be interested to know whether that’s just my company or a wider thing? At first, I guess they were a little surprised, but ultimately I think they respected me a little more. I left that entire industry not long after that so I wasn’t too worried about any fallout. And on a related tangent – being willing to cut out family who don’t deserve to be in your life. So many of the older generation have the mindset of “you never cut out family no matter what”, which I think is bullshit

They Might Be Giants Mickey Mouse shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

I’m the They Might Be Giants Mickey Mouse shirt and I love this only one in my family that has never been….. tribal almost. Which is why by choice I only see them like twice a year. I remember when I was 16 and I quit a toxic minimum wage job. My family acted like I threw my entire career away. As if there weren’t 50 other minimum wage jobs who were desperately looking for people. Cookie dough made to eat as is. I no longer have to feel like a gremlin hiding in the kitchen eating my cookie dough. the flour is also an issue. e. coli. you have to bake the flour for a bit to kill it and make the dough without eggs When talking to older people, you’ll notice the setting for a lot of stories is waiting for something or traveling somewhere to do something you can get done on your phone today. I don’t know if it’s a trend, but I like how the narrative “you gotta go to college if you wanna make something of your life” is being challenged. Seriously, I can’t get over how many kids, fresh out of college, come into my field and have no idea what TF they’re supposed to do. I know my employer requires a degree for the position, but I’ve told them countless times I could train someone without a degree just as fast as some of the kids that have washed out – they’d probably be more motivated, too. I dropped out of university, then went to a college for something else, worked in this field for 10 years, got sick of it and switched to IT, which I did as a 13 year old for fun. Had absolutely no education, all self tought. Best job I ever had. Still doing it, and my boss helps me out when I hit a wall.
