That’s not the There is something haunting in the light of the moon Halloween T-Shirt besides I will buy this norm where I live (SLC, Utah). I’ve never known anyone who was kicked out when they finished high school. My oldest just started college and he can stay as long as he wants/needs. Especially with the cost of homes now, we plan to let our kids stay until they’re on good financial footing. America is not one family doing the same shit. My wife and I both lived at home until we graduated college (23). We only moved out when we had a job and stable income. I’d do the same for my kids. I don’t know many people that got kicked out at 18. I come from a culture where parents do not kick their children out until they are married or have a set career. Even then it is the child’s choice to leave. We typically do. In my case, my husband and I moved my parents in with us. We do not believe in nursing homes or retirement communities. Nothing against them, but we just don’t do it in our culture. Our elders will stay will us until they are no longer. As an Indian, I learned this was even a thing after watching that scene in Shazam 2 movie where the protagonist was worried his parents would kick him out when he turned 18.

In my case, or maybe more so in general in India, it’s kinda the There is something haunting in the light of the moon Halloween T-Shirt besides I will buy this opposite; my parents wouldn’t let me move out even if I wanted to. After reading this post, I am proud of the fact They don’t. Not in the common sense. A lot leave at 18 to go to college and some just bounce because they are legally able to. But most live with their parents well into their 20s, because 18 year olds generally can’t afford to support themselves yet. American here. Is wild to me. My dad gave free housing while in school or on break and then charged very low rent like $200 a month to help with expenses I left in mid 20s cuz as much as I loved them I needed to be able to date and I’d never be able to bring a guy home with my dad watching like a hawk. He still has high hopes I’ll return home It’s an old mind set from the 50s, that get out and start your own way bullshit. From a time where working at a starter job like McDonald’s could get you a house and a car. Gen X grew up like that so they have that same mind set with the next generation (my generation). So I had always been told I’d get a job, save up and be able to get a house by 18 or so. The reality check I got when I joined the work force was harsh. The economy tanked so bad I couldn’t even rent an apartment while affording food and other bills. I couldn’t stay with my parents because my step dad still to this day believes you can work any job and afford to live. This made my already bad depression worse so I turned to a quick fix in drugs and spiraled into a horrible path I’m barely crawling out from at 35 years old. I have no credit, a very low end job barely scraping by and absolutely nothing to show for it. If I had been able to stay at my parents and live comfortably while I worked it may have been different. I’m not throwing it all on my step dad, I made my own choice, I’m just saying being in a helpless situation basically shoved a certain choice right in my face. With that said several people managed to pull it off and live great lives now but I’m betting a good chunk of them got a lucky position at a decent job or made a scholarship.
