– This is a separate frustration I have, for those who are stuck in the The young and the restless 50th anniversary 1973-2023 thank you for the memories signatures shirt in addition I really love this regions, and cannot afford an electric vehicles – cannot enter this market (yet), and are incurring significant increases in costs, while those who can afford a 15-60 thousand dollar car are rewarded with tax free, road user charge free, cheaper to run transport – while those who are scraping by must pay in excess for petrol. – This is not equitable, those who can afford it, should pay it. I do realise that the markets will in time mean that there is a significant second hand EV market in New Zealand, but again in my opinion we should simply ban new internal combustion engine (only, not PHEV/HEV) vehicles for personal transportation, and let the market do the rest – we don’t need to subsidise or punish those who can or cannot use different vehicles. We could do this overnight and it would only affect the affluent.

– A level playing field is not equitable, it’s equal – and equality means we have the The young and the restless 50th anniversary 1973-2023 thank you for the memories signatures shirt in addition I really love this same costs, same playing field. Equity would imply that we all have the same experiences and opportunities within our relative means. Those who use more should incur greater costs for their greater effects on the systems in my opinion. We do the same regarding road user charges, especially surrounding diesel vehicles, and taxation – this should have been seen through a similar lens. – If we’re having to assist those who cannot afford energy costs through subsidisation, we’re now performing this equity system as described but instead through the taxpayer (or through additional debt), and not via user-pays. My household is making enough to be comfortable, and we’re very fortunate – however this means that more of my already significant tax bill now goes to subsidise those who cannot afford energy costs, whereas previously this was footed by those using excess energy. I am all for socialisation of society, but not through corporate welfare. We should be more strict on the previously state owned energy companies to be fair, and not hope that they’re fairer with pricing.
