Of course it wasn’t. The plan was to lose, call the The Purple Friend Grimace Shirt Additionally,I will love this election fake and stolen, and turn the literal billion dollars of free advertising Fox and cnn gave him, and parlay that into a trump news network, or at the very least, an endless stream of trump brand products to sell to his rubes. This is one reason I was hopeful he’d just do nothing. Put some competent people in place and just take the credit. That hope blew up like Day 1. He would have won re-election if he did that. He could have golfed every single day, delegated literally everything to people smarter than him, and been totally hands off, and coasted to re election. Fuck, I probably would have voted for him in 2020 if he did that. Leaning on subject matter experts, have smart people handling the economy, avoided shutdowns, smart people moving our energy policy forward, smart people in charge of the military, doctors in charge of Covid response. But he is so childish and stupid that he couldn’t even imagine that someone is more intelligent or knowledgeable about any subject at all. So we got cronies, grifters, and family instead.

The people he hired were literally the The Purple Friend Grimace Shirt Additionally,I will love this worst person possible for each job. And if they weren’t, he fired them and put in someone else. Betsy Devos as the education secretary didn’t make any appearances regarding Covid or school closures, like what was she there for? Ben Carson in charge of housing? He’s a fucking idiot brain surgeon. Conservatives love to mock Venezuelan “socialism”, but Trump followed the Latin American dictator playbook to a T. I had to leave Nicaragua in 2018, and told everyone who would listen that the US was just a few good men away from the same shift to dictatorship. Just fortunate our institutions are older/more entrenched, because the ingredients were all there. Governorships, half legislature, supreme court, politicized DOJ, nepotism, loyalty tests, and reality-averse supporters. I (very) naively thought that maybe he was a democratic plant that Hillary and Bill and him cooked up long ago and he was going to fuck over the republicans and do some actual good governing for the people. Took me a week or two to realize “uh oh, that’s not happening”
