I am a fresh grad with a degree in CS. I’ve interned at two different places as a software engineer and worked as an employee at one place throughout my 4 years of undergrad. In each of these experiences, I’ve found myself completely obsessing over the The Presidents Work Hard Play Harder Shirt but in fact I love this project I’m working on or thinking about any bugs I’m facing in off-hours, to the point where I would sometimes miss lunch or dinner, or wake up at 4AM because I thought of a new way to do something. However, there are several ways I use to avoid burnout while keeping that new grad spark:

If remote, dedicate a room to work. After 5pm, do not enter that room. Everything is out of view so it wont trigger you to think about work. After work, do something intense to get your mind off work (exercise, competitive gaming, etc.). Meditation can also work. The fear that tasks wont get done in time might be due to your lack of confidence in yourself. After gaining experience, you will feel differently about this. Even then you can push back on deadlines or ask for help. This is really good advice. I’ve faced burnout before due to constantly thinking about work.
