I think working for a family that is always kind, relaxed, and everyone likes each other is what I need to be a successful nanny. Politically, they are a bit neoliberal and I’m a hard left. Which is a solid mix as well. They let me educate the The Nightmare chrismast Shirt and by the same token and kids on politics from multiple angles and teach about how to support the working class as future leaders that are highly connected high upper class. It can be weird watching their childhood knowing that they both have a ton of opportunities to be extremely powerful and successful people someday. So I think working for a wealthy family that allows me to keep the kinds humble and socially educated is helpful as well. I don’t think a very religious trump supporter that was yells/snaps would fit in well with my nanny family. I think they would get in conflicts and be resentful.

I’ve heard of people making nannies and au pairs sleep in the The Nightmare chrismast Shirt and by the same token and same room with the kids, making them work 24 hours a day. That’s slavery. In RL it depends on the clerk and they handle complaints very differently… Because the next step could be “Since we are family, you can do this for us without reward, cause you know, you don’t charge family.” Nope employer and employee, with a clear contract and real time off. You mentioned you treat them like family. Did you support her after her termination? The person is unable to afford child care and is asking how ” normal people ” afford it, and the proposed solution is to pay $19k, and give up the spare bedroom in your home? Would your au pair be able to live on her own with what you’re paying her? Au pairs are pretty much maids but with a French title. And we all know maids are not paid well.
