Even in a high humidity climate it should be dry inside the car. She could have started it occasionally to keep the battery alive unless it’s an old battery that wants to die fast, but if the mold is from a small water leak then it might only show up if the car isn’t used regularly and is a bit harder to prevent unless you specifically told her to put a tarp over it or occasionally air it out. You should have put a car cover on it and who cares about a dead battery. If it lost charge in one year it wasn’t a good battery or you have some drain on the system. Hey this happend to my sisters honda. It can be salvaged just gonna take some elbow grease and a lot of patience. The smells takes years to fade though lol. Was she aware that this could happen? Is she a mechanic or a car storage expert? Were you aware that this could happen? If you were, why did you never ask her if she did any “maintenance”? Did you ever discuss what steps she is to take to maintain it?

If you really want to revive it you could hunt for a clean junkyard interior, everything fabric would have to be replaced but plastics can be saved with the right cleaning products, you would have to clean out vents too I noticed in some comments there was talks about reviving the car, and as someone who loves putting money into old clunkers, I gotta say this one isn’t it. With the KMs, and the fact it sat so long, you seriously are looking at at least $2000 to get this thing drivable. The parts that require frequent movement will most likely all need to be replaced like brakes, most fluids, bearings, suspension. The interior is done for. As a detailer, if someone came to me with that job, my first question would be “who’s your nearest scrap yard” you won’t want to get in there to replace it, and if you do, you’ll for sure miss the spots that have mold like under the dash, the hvac system, and more. For $500 you really could just buy another one of these with less KM that would maybe require new brakes. It sucks, but the health hazard alone isn’t worth trying anything here
