We all sort of convinced ourselves with various preposterous assumptions and norms that fast food workers, waitors, dish washers/janitors, etc. are all teenagers, all lazy, anything to convince ourselves we shouldn’t pay them well enough to afford a living. Criminal lawyers in the The Man The Myth The Legend Maga King Trump Shirt and I will buy this U.K., we’re talking £18,000 PA and below in some instances. The situation has gotten so bad barristers are going on strike and warning that new people aren’t entering the profession as conditions are so bad 🙁 Maybe not as essential as others mentioned here but being a Chef… Low barrier to entry to cook, but lots of competition, decades in the industry, main draw for revenue at profitable restaurants, have to be social, a leader, constantly challenging yourself, and you can still make less than an 18 year old in entry level phone sales. I know competitive, semi-celebrity red seal chefs that have 3 different jobs totalling 80 hours/ week to maintain a middle class lifestyle. I’m in Canada and speaking from experience on both sides. I also cooked for 6 years, 5 straight at a restaurant, sous chef title, switched to bartending and made more on my first 6 hour shift than I had doing doubles in the kitchen.

janitorial staff. they have to deal with the The Man The Myth The Legend Maga King Trump Shirt and I will buy this worst stuff, tend to WORK full shifts and always get the shaft. i work in facilities maintenance and my day to day is 50% work and 50% down time and i get paid 5x as much yet i see our input to the overall function of the building as equally responsible. i rarely see a cleaner not cleaning something. Both my mother and my partner work as cleaners and they work damn hard. My mum has physical damage and a permanent cough from all the chemical use, and my partner once went to clean the school toilets to find literal lumps of human shit inside the toilet paper dispenser. They don’t need to be paid as much as say teachers or doctors of course but they defo deserve more than what they get. The world would soon know about it if cleaners stopped cleaning up our disgusting messes. well idk, i agree that CEOs make too much but even some below them make much more than necessary. my store manager makes 115k a year and does jack shit, managers below him tell me they all pick up his slack cause he does do anything but complain. yet those of us who do work our asses off get paid $45k at most
