So slightly wasted day for what would undoubtably have been a very tense case only for it to sort of solve itself. I’m actually called up for it currently too, since last week. It’s really annoying though because I have to check the website at 5pm every day to see if my number has been called to come in the next day. Which means I can’t schedule any calls or meetings in work as I don’t know if I’m going to be in work or not. I went in to court last Monday for the induction session then every day since the website has said that my number is not required to attend the following day – so I haven’t actually done anything yet. I was called up last year, had better things to do so emailed and said I couldn’t make it. They said ok that’s fine. That’s my story. I’ve done it once – absolutely hated it. I can’t go into depth for obvious reasons, but the thing that made it difficult was that the defendant seemed a bit vulnerable and I felt like he wasn’t really able to give a good account of himself. The whole process rests on the assumption that people behave in a way that makes sense, and people always make sense when they’re telling the truth, but I’m not sure I believe that. Really hoping I never get called up again. I got called up, but it was in my uni town and I had left already. Went back to pick up some stuff and hand the keys back on a Saturday, found a letter summoning me for the Monday! Had to call the court first thing Monday and explain why I couldn’t attend. They were understanding about it and excused me. Haven’t been called up since and I’m slightly disappointed by that!
