I’m not 30+ or 40+ yet, but my boyfriend and I decided that we will never ever have kids. We’ll be able to travel after university and do whatever we want. I regret it everyday but I also know I’d regret having one just as much…if not more- because I am already suffering from various health issues and exhausted as it is. I accept I can still be very fulfilled not having children, even when I regret what might have been- I have wanted nothing more my entire life than to be a mum. It has to- kids are needy. So needy. But I choose to accept that it’s not meant to be, rather than “choose not to have kids”- for me it feels like I made the only choice my circumstances allow. I regret it everyday, and I’m thankful for the freedom I do have everyday too. I’m also grateful for my stepkids and a partner who involves me in their lives. It’s a glimpse- just enough to get by. I can’t provide foster care either, but that would be my route otherwise, if not for health Late 30s, have not regretted it so far and don’t think I will in the near future. I’ve finally got to a point in my career where I make some money and I enjoy being able to spend that on myself. I also rather regret not having them than regret having them. 34F- sometimes I think I’m missing out on motherhood and then I see my 6 sibling’s kids and realize I’m not. Love them, but nope, I’m good.
