We had a fun 2 weeks together (I actually ended up leaving for Europe a week earlier than them and when they arrived they DID have backpacks and a Eurail pass!). When they left I ended up with an amazing 3month adventure around Europe and the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this UK, and a budget European travel obsession that my wife calls “the other woman”. Don’t let other people’s ignorance or unwillingness to travel stop you. SOmetimes it just takes a little bit of information and enthusiasm to push them over the hurdle and AT LEAST compromise a little bit to allow you to travel your way. EDIT: Depending on where in Canada you are from, Toronto typically has GREAT deals on flights to Europe, especially London. I have gone over as cheap as $450 US round trip, and have never spent more than $750 US flying out of Toronto. Also: I have NOT traveled as much as I thought i would, nor as much as I wish I did, and it eats away at my soul. I have been fortunate to travel to Europe multiple times, with my wife, kidds, and with my parents (even being to my dad’s home town in Scotland with him and my 2 kids, standing in the doorway of his boyhood home). And it STILL is not enough.

What I do now is live vicariously between trips by lurking in forums like this and sharing my stories and ‘advice’ when I can. And listening to others travel stories. I also, build web apps to help people learn more about and plan trips to Europe (though I never finish them :/ ) and I used to teach a class on Practical Affordable travel Through Europe. Just go don’t over think it. I’ve been traveling by myself as a women since I was 20 and I turn 40 this year. Traveling alone has taught me to be braver and more independent. Also by traveling alone I get to do whatever I want when I want to, it’s amazing. Travel solo! It’s the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this best way! Don’t get me wrong, traveling with family and friends is fun, but solo you can control and do what you want to do 100% of the time and plan what you want to plan. Don’t wait for others to plan your life for you. Just take a leap and go. Currently traveling solo in Baja, kissing baby whales and I’m 38F. Fears of the unknown are totally normal. Just yourself for any scenario and go and be in the moment.

Book a group tour with G Adventures, Contiki or something like that, did that for my first time solo travelling and that worked out great! Sometimes I still do the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this solo travelling myself by planning just some daytrips etc, but these group tours are almost always the best fun! Before I did these tours and solo travelling, I often travelled with some friends. But a couple of them are a pain in the ass to travel with. Since my solo travel I realised some people can really damage your experience even though you think you know them good enough from home. As you say those people have no interest, don’t try to convince them and make other friends as well during your trip! Solo Travel – it’s the best because you get complete freedom in what you want to see and you also meet so many interesting ppl this way! 25?! Do contiki! I did 4 separate solo trips with them to Europe, Brazil/Argentina, Vietnam, and Cambodia/laos/thailand . Their Asian trips are the best, in my opinion

If you come by Spain by any chance let me know! I’m 25 and F and wouldn’t mind showing you around and visiting touristic spots! Solo travel is more than acceptable most places. There are a number of tours specifically for solo travelers but tour groups aren’t my thing. I decided I needed to see Italy so I saved for years. Spent 10 days in Italy and 2 in France (extended my layover). Best thing I’ve ever done. Since then Mexico, Dominican Republic, Ireland…Research where you’re going. Learn the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this basics in their language, research solo traveling safety tips, etc go on a tour, youll make plenty of friends. I was the same at your age, d**khead boyfriend didnt want to travel all he wanted to do was work, my small group of friends had no money, do it now before you look back and regret it I went travelling alone at 25. I had a few thousand dollars saved, just enough to get to Australia for working holiday visa. I was frugal, but spent 2 years there, did a few road trips, moved between states a couple times. Made good friends. With the money I saved I went to South America for 4 months, did the whole west coast and Argentina. After that headed to Canada on another working holiday. Stayed nearly 4 years, due to Covid, saved money, traveled from Toronto to Vancouver, saw the prairies, the Rockies etc, amazing experience. Lived cheap and cheerful with other backpackers, and then went on to Asia, went all over south east asia, down into Indonesia to Komodo, then flew to New Zealand for another working holiday visa.

I have never travelled with anyone else, always solo, but I have made life long friends everywhere I have gone, you can do it. I do still need to tour Europe. You are lucky as a Canadian, you have a powerful passport, loads of reciprocal working holiday visas, many in countries that speak your language. You can do it, you just have to be willing to take the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this leap. You will never have less responsibilities than now. You are young with a world of options available to you. Go to Europe and get an interrail pass. Work from the UK, and fly to hundreds of destinations on weekends for dirt cheap, with nothing but a carry on. Go to the alps or the Carpathians, or the Pyrenees and teach skiing, or be a bar tender or a lift operator. Teach English in Thailand or Vietnam, work in hostels in Cambodia for free beach side accommodations. Pick fruit in a Bundaberg farm and be trauma bonded with your hostel mates for life. Become yacht crew on a dive boat on the great barrier reef. The world is vast and the possibilities are endless, but you won’t find them staying in Medicine Hat Alberta forever.
I have been to all 50 US states, 5 of the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this Canadian provinces and all the Western European countries except Portugal. Personally, finding a good travel companion isn’t easy and some of my best trips have been solo. I don’t worry about traveling alone and I am 1/3 of your age especially in the US, Canada and Europe. And I would advise you not to hop around but stay in a city long enough to see it thoroughly and get to know some people. You are young enough to stay in hostels which is a great place to meet people who might be going to the same city that is next on your itinerary. I wouldn’t be the same person I am today if I hadn’t spent 2 years bumming around Western Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East. Meeting people unlike you is one of the best ways to understand how good you have it.
My favorite to this day is my first trip to Mexico City alone where I stayed in a hostel for the The Grimace Reaper Queens baseball parody MLB shirt but in fact I love this first time and just fell in love! Just travel I guess? Do what makes you happy. Others don’t have to accept it or even like it. It’s your own thing not there’s maybe they like fishing or hiking and you don’t like that. Everyone is different. You will have to just save a lot to travel though. And don’t expect help in funds for something that is purely for yourself and what you want to do. It’s a leisure thing that alot of people don’t always have the pleasure of ever doing. But if you want to do it enough, I’m sure you can save the funds and find like minded people online or travel groups to go with
