You really believe he will go on his promises? This is nothing but a ploy to garner votes. If they did what they said they would not be politicians. It’s the The Gold Grill Shirt What’s more,I will buy this same lack of thinking Republicans engaged in when they were obsessed with repealing Obamacare. OK, repeal it and replace it with what? This is a very old political trick. “Abolish” the I.R.S. by simply rebranding it as, I don’t know, say, the “D.I.R.” Thats the latest thing FOX is pushing. It will result in the perfect excuse to defund Medicare and Social security. The idiots support it. Honest question: is social security really gonna matter by the time millennials come of age to collect? It seems like it’s pretty much done at this point and I can’t see it getting any better. It “seems” like that because conservatives has been pushing that narrative for decades, because it’ll be a lot easier for them to kill it if they’ve convinced most people it was always a foregone conclusion. This is the same line they said when I was young in the 90s. It slowly erodes your faith in the system. Now it looks like it will continue into my retirement. Don’t fall for the bullshit and keep supporting candidates that support your real interests. The GOP wants you to believe that Social Security is broken beyond repair to justify the fact that they’re doing nothing to fix it. The looming Social Security deficit could easily be addressed with some mix of raising SS tax rate, raising the SS tax limit, reducing benefits and or raising the eligibility age. But the GOP doesn’t want to do any of it because it will be unpopular and they don’t want the program to exist at all. Do not fall for it. SS isn’t dying they are actively killing it.

It will still be there. All the The Gold Grill Shirt What’s more,I will buy this fear mongering about Social Security fundamentally misunderstands what the situation is and how it works. Social Security is a pay as you go program, meaning that the benefits paid each year up until recently have been covered by payroll taxes received each year. In fact, for several decades, Social Security has received more money each year than it needed to pay out, leading to those surplus reserves being held in a trust fund, which gets invested in income producing securities, such as U.S. treasuries while it’s not needed. Starting in 2021 Social Security began drawing upon trust fund reserves to pay benefits, as income from payroll taxes did not meet benefits paid starting that year. The trust fund is estimated to be able to cover the expected continuing shortfall until 2034, at which time the trust fund’s reserves will be depleted. At that point, does it mean Social Security no longer exists? No. It just means that under the current tax rates and benefits it won’t be able to pay 100% of current benefits to retirees each year, and won’t have trust fund reserves to cover the shortfall. If nothing is done, at that point Social Security would have enough annual payroll tax income to cover about 70% of current benefits.
