I agree, although whilst it’s reasonable to have crumpets at dinner time, one should never have crumpets for dinner. She has spent her entire life thinking of crumpets as a toast alternative for meals like beans on toast, or cheese on toast. She’ll eat poached eggs on crumpets before she’ll eat them with jam. If she thinks crumpets are a toast alternative and crumpets aren’t breakfast food does she think toast isn’t breakfast food? Ok I’m with her there. I usually only have them with butter because another topping over butter is basically a waste of butter, but add an egg yoke… Grilled cheese crumpers, sausage, scrambled egg and mushrooms is a PERFECTLY acceptable tea. I was just about to ask if anyone had done french toast crumpets (frumpets?) because I think that would be something I would enjoy. So I’ll be doing that tomorrow. Well, we never called it french toast, it’s “eggy bread” but I thought people wouldn’t know what I meant. It’s not sweet.
