When it comes to academics and IT work, he’s brilliant. If you’re trying to coordinate a series of tasks – like being in place X at 10 AM, pick up something at place Y and head to place Z by noon, he’s going to be in place Z at 1 PM with none of the stuff he needed from place Y. The idea of him working with power tools is terrifying. My buddy is smart as shit but an absolute mess when it comes to home and personal upkeep. Energy and smarts are allocated to very specific things for him School is a very defined and structured system. It often doesn’t take innovative thinking or creativity, because you’re just supposed to do the work and meet the checkpoints that have been mapped out. Then there are some people who are extremely good at one specific arena of study or work. That’s why a lot of us who almost flunked out of high school hit our stride in college. The prof was like read these 10 books and write one twenty page paper on a topic or theory that has something to do with the books. Your grade is based on that one paper. Those honors kids in high school then say, “but what do you want me to write about?”

It’s not all of them and many people who almost flunked out of high school were just lazy idiots, but there are an examples of this. I have a friend who worked in a lab for years, did applied maths in school, straight As, etc. But he once told me his brain cannot process sudoku puzzles. But his grasp of basic biology, was tenuous for a time.. Thats all ill say for now. Intelligence isn’t a singular driving factor. There’s a bunch of types of intelligence, influencing different parts of our lives. If you’re a nerd, think of it in rog terms- Cha is social intelligence and personal driving willpower, Int is academic intelligence, and the ability to apply it, and Wis is common sense, or worldly intelligence. Often times, you have to focus one stat more than the others. This means you can be an incredible academic but a terrible everyday person lol Theres probably some confirmation bias here too where you see her relaxed in her personal life. I could be wrong here.. but maybe her professional life is very draining and she wants to be silly; let her guard down when shes with you I’ve noticed that a lot of people who others would consider to be smart are actually just people with better than average memories, they’re not actually smarter, may even be slower, than other people when solving actual problems.
