I live in the United States and the quality of life is horrible in terms of quality time you get with your family or even oneself. Everything is always on the go, we don’t stop. Similar to living in a big city and smaller town. You are not wasting time driving everywhere, commutes are usually 20 minutes max anywhere you want to go.You have time, and time in life is much more meaningful and valuable then we think. We need time for ourselves and our loved ones and this means valuable time. In many of these countries that’s valued. Here in the U.S. it is not. It is looked down upon to take time off in many different ways.

I have been Hybrid/WFH since about 20110 and moved to 100% WFH in 2017. I know my life has been alot less stressful and we managed to get down to one car PMT and an ebike… So alot less driving, more $$ in my pocket and I get Wayyyyyy more time with family… YAY….. I find that having the time to take 10 mins and throw laundry in or tidy up the kitchen on breaks frees up the afternoon and weekends from all the odd things you have to get done. Good stuff I’m noticing the days are getting longer, and I’m feeling a sense of dread coming on. I don’t like summer at all. I’ve read about a theory, that long dark days enhances social behaviour, bonding people more together, and a more social life is a more happy life. i have no idea. i live in supposedly the happiest country on earth but i’m (more) miserable every winter. but the snow helps! it’s so much more brighter with it than without it, and i imagine that the netherlands has almost as little daylight, but doesn’t have snow to reflect the tiny amount of light for as long.

Before I even realize it’s getting cooler my mood starts to improve, December-January is whe I really feel like “myself”.

Even though we get -40 Celsius temperatures, if you eat lunch outside you can usually get enough sunshine to feel pretty cheerful.

Being outdoors as often as possible when it wasn’t raining too hard; avoiding eating or drinking too much or too heavily. Keeping to a routine sleep-wake cycle. Being active in the snow, when or if it came or stayed, and trying new sports with the kids. Spending time in museums or going to comedy shows or plays that during sunnier days, we never seemed to have time for. Making and taking time for friends and new hobbies. Go all out for seasonal holidays. Buy decent boots or all-weather gear to stay dry and warm. Go hike. Take a train trip. Gather positive people around you and halve the problem by sharing time together. Check in on each other and do things in groups, like raclette, fondue, hot pot, or skating or skiing parties vs. always doing things alone or sitting online.
Well I think people who live in southwest America where it’s just 24hrs of sun and 900% temperatures are pretty nuts just based on what I hear, not that much but I think they’re nuts and I’m in Brooklyn. Maybe people tend to find ways toward satisfaction more in their home and when spring, summer, fall comes around it’s a big boost of different happiness that they might eventually just have a different version of in winter. I have tons of different reasons I love every season, winter-snow of course and brighter stars, spring-everything growing again, summer-chaotic thunderstorms and the The Cannon Catcher Shirt it is in the first place but sounds of crickets and whatnot at night, autumn-bright color dying trees and coffee tastes even better somehow.
