My Dad has cochlear implants and most nights when he takes them off he hears music looped over and over. I guess this isn’t hearing per say, more and abstraction made by the The b 52’s I’m a rock lobster shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this mind to fill in the empty space. There’s different levels to deafness, same as sight. Some retain enough hearing that they can be highly functioning with speech therapy or they can benefit from devices that augment what hearing they have. I have moderate hearing loss, I can still function without hearing aids. But the difference with and without hearing aids is crazy. The amount of sound that you miss out on is life changing. Single sided deaf here, severe constant tinnitus in my deaf ear. It’s enough to drive a person mad. People have committed suicide just to get away from the sound.

There are levels to hearing loss. Mild, Moderate, Severe and severe to profound. At profound you’re at 80-90 decibels to hear anything. Jackhammer is about 100 decibels Losses are also usually in a frequency range so higher pitch sounds are usually harder to hear for many. It really distorts what you’d hear as unimpaired. I have 2 in my house that have levels of loss (3 of you count one of my cats). That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. Im deaf myself. All I hear is ringing. But i guess it because cochlear implant just fucking my mind and I have not wore it for decade… (not cochlear implant is comp-able with deaf person)
