I was about 14 and I’d taken my baby brother (about 2 at the Texas Tech University Red Raiders Dad shirt But I will love this time) into town to do some christmas shopping. It’s one bus, no changes. Got on the bus to come home and without me knowing they changed the number (and route!) halfway through and suddenly started going to random places I didn’t know. They finally stopped in a street I was familiar with so I jumped off and had to walk the rest of the way home. I was distraught but had to keep it together to not scare my brother. I’ve always had a distrust of buses ever since. Not a bus, but a cab from LAX to Burbank, when my other half had a job interview in the States years ago (he got the job, but didn’t take it in the end as his dad got poorly but is all good now) and the company invited us both over.

We got in, standard American yellow cab, after a massive transatlantic flight, completely knackered and wanting to go to bed despite it only being something like 5pm or so. Our driver is really really friendly, with an almost comedically thick cartoonish east European accent. As soon as we are on the Texas Tech University Red Raiders Dad shirt But I will love this road, he starts to offer us biscuits and random stuff through the hatch between the front and back seats (“you vaaant cookie? Is good cookie!”). We decline and he tells us after about 10 minutes of driving that it’s the end of his shift now, which we were understandably perplexed by given we weren’t at our hotel and had no fucking clue where we were. He pulls off the freeway into some residential streets, until we stop outside a house. He gets out, goes inside, and a completely different guy comes out and finishes the cab drive to our hotel. He wasn’t as friendly as the first guy, and all the way we wondered if we were part of some weird elaborate mugging set up or something. We weren’t.
