And on top of that, South Korea’s TFR is much lower than anywhere else’s. For a long while, it seemed like Japan was showing what a bottoming out of the TFR would look like since it was sticky around 1.3-1.4 for them. But now South Korea is way under 1 TFR and decreasing every year, so their demographic problems are going to be much worse and quicker than Japan’s, which has remained remarkably stable (if low) in the last twenty years.
