After a hard year at 1366×768, probably managed by a hunt-and-peck typist with their 1080p monitor set to 640×480 because it’s a “bigger resolution”, he had to toss in the SWAT fill the gaps stay liquid shirt and by the same token and towel and become a product owner. The problem is the amount of RAM. Companies then, and now, look at the min RAM for Windows and go with that. That’s fine if your OS is clean and you only run a browser with a few tabs and a single office app with 500kb files. But the moment you load up all the security software (some useful and good, some shite!) you’re already using the swap file before you fire up the first user app. Fire up outlook, teams, a nice big excel SSMS or Visual Studio, and chrome with gmail, calendar, and 50 stackoverflow tabs, and you’re swapping to storage like your life depends on it. And no HDD (or even SSD) is going to be fast in that case.
