That’s the Sun Record Company Memphis Tennessee Shirt and I will buy this concept explored in a new book from Rizzoli: Designing History: The Extraordinary Art & Style of the Obama White House. It documents pages upon pages of designer Michael S. Smith’s interiors for the former first family, in which he mixed their personal pieces seamlessly with historical artifacts from generations past. Flipping through, you learn how Jackie Kennedy, Barbara Bush, and Nancy Reagan all left their aesthetic mark, as well as Michelle Obama herself: during her tenure, the White House purchased the first work by a black female artist.

Sun Record Company Memphis Tennessee Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Below, Smith talks to Vogue about creating private spaces in the Sun Record Company Memphis Tennessee Shirt and I will buy this most public of homes, the Obamas’ personal style, and how it feels designing America’s house. The book begins with an introduction by Michelle Obama. She explains how the White House has a dual purpose of being a public and private space—yes, it’s the seat of government, but also a family home. So how do you make a building like that feel, well, personal to the people who are living there for only a set period of time?
