Lindsay, 25, a social media coordinator at an ad agency, thinks she would have posted the Summer of Cherry Hill NC T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this news of her new relationship with her partner, Noah, on Instagram regardless of the pandemic, but her experience of weathering the beginnings of quarantine on her own certainly played a role. “I started this whole global pandemic a year ago extremely single,” she says. “I was very furious that couples got a built-in support system that I didn’t feel entitled to during the strictest period of our local restrictions.”

Ultimately, Lindsay says she chose Valentine’s Day to make her relationship with Noah public “mostly because it’s the Summer of Cherry Hill NC T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this day where that post would stand out the least, but also find me at my most mushy.” Meanwhile, other new lovers, like Julia, 23, a journalist, chose to go public on Valentine’s Day both as a deliberate play on the Hallmark-ified quality of the holiday and in an attempt to make the most out of a pretty challenging time to be alive. Julia has sporadically posted pictures of her partner, Reanna, before, but specifically referenced the “boyfriend reveal” in her Valentine’s Day ode.
