They’re basically a NIMBY and their attitude is literally “I couldn’t give a rats arse about the ferry and whatever tourism it brings all it does bring is noise and a ugly site to what would otherwise be a stunning bay and it should be moved somewhere else – namely where I can’t see or hear it” It’s the same attitude as people who move out to neighbourhoods around Wellington airport – and now they’re suddenly opposed to the airport expansion and believe that the airport in general should be shut down to bring NZ in line with its carbon emissions and 2020 showed that the airport is a white elephant (lots of property investors in welly have this attitude – because if Wellington airport shuts down then their shitbox investment value doubles. It’s the same attitude as the property investor who tried to shut down the NZDF Airforce base and was successful for 20 minutes – until NZF minister Ron Mark vetoed the environmental court ruling) Would you go to Blenheim or straight to Lyttelton so everyone skips the road, with maybe a smaller ferry still going to Picton?
