Liability basically but I don’t see why that’s even a big fuss in an almost lawless country try like India. It’s not like court cases are heard within a week. However, companies still have fail proof plans like PIP and termination (due to company’s non performance) to terminate any number of employees legally. You could’ve just refused to resign, as it is very complex for companies to terminate female employees who are carrying even if performance isn’t good. Lack of efficient judicial systems works both ways. Use it to your advantage. I bet if you stop going to the office for a month, it is the Managers ass on fire.

They can keep sending you legal notices, they don’t mean shit. Don’t be scared of those things because they aren’t any good. First time, I was pregnant. The owner straight up told me I would need to resign otherwise she would have to pay me maternity pay. And THEN instead of calling their bluff and waiting out the 7 days you again resigned. Don’t you see it was nothing but a bluff? Had you stayed on, they would’ve had to either keep you on or terminate you and pay unfair severance. Generally the company needs to at least pay you your entire notice period salary without getting any work from you if they terminate your employment from their side. Its not only in India, it’s everywhere. Until and unless it’s mass lay off, they ask employee to resign because of labour laws. For ex: The first time if you would have refused, they would have to pay you salary during maternity break for 6 months. For second time, you could have sue them for unfair termination.
