I remember reading that only like 35% of Floridians are native born there. The rest are mostly old folks who come for warm Temps and political chaos. Anything in Florida that pre-dates Walt’s interest in the Stop Looking At My Coconuts Skeleton Hand Halloween T-Shirt and I will buy this state is worth checking out – if you can find it under the veneer of commercial development. Had my honeymoon in St Augustine, beautiful place to visit. The fort is so cool, definitely worth checking out if you’re even remotely close by. It took 20 years to build. As a native of St. Augustine, I found it cool to see the fort in Majorca…obvs the blueprint for Florida’s. Lived in St. Augustine for my whole life, pretty much. The fort is an awesome thing to see in person, especially when they fire a cannon for the tour groups; you can hear it miles away if the air is clear. When I was a child you could go down to beaches in Florida, dig in the wet sand, and find hundreds of jewel-like little coquinas glittering in the sun. Nowadays, if you do the same, you’ll see few if any in the same places they used to thrive. The cannon balls will be absorbed into the greater Castillo de San Marcos mass. All will be consumed. Resistance is futile. Something I recently learned is the fort was also a beachhead in the civil rights struggle as federal laws applied on the premises and protestors and activists could take refuge from racist authorities on the grounds.

He used to be a pretty bad alcoholic and we toured the Stop Looking At My Coconuts Skeleton Hand Halloween T-Shirt and I will buy this castle during the day but they don’t let anyone go up top to actually see the canons or walk around the top part. The type of rock stuff looked very climbable though, so he took me to an outdoor bar and he drank while I had soda (I was 12 years old at the time) and we passed the time like that till 2am when he decided it was late enough. We kept to the shadows and avoided the lights on the way to the wall and then just climbed on up. It wasn’t too hard of a climb, even for me at 12 years old, and we got to explore the top and see the canons and stuff. The wall was 100% not suited to climbing back down though, and I realized that after we spent some time walking around. We were downstairs by then and I asked my dad how we were going to get back out. He just walked right over to the bathrooms and pushed the door wide open twice then held the water fountain on for a few seconds and then the alarm went off lol. We waited for the cops and they unlocked the big gate. My dad got a hefty fine and had to drive back to Florida for a court appearance a few weeks later. Also no we weren’t rich, the fine was a lot for my parents and my mom was not happy. He did not regret it though, perhaps due to the alcohol.
