I really had a hard time deciding my self if this was GI or not to be honest. This is one of those times I’m fucking glad I’m not a referee. Yeah this was a bit of a close one. I think he went to hard to the Stars Stripes Reproductive Rights 4th of July Strong hand T-Shirt besides I will buy this net and it would have been a close thing to avoid the goaltender. The defenseman didn’t make it easier. I didn’t like the goal because the original play made it impossible for the goalie to save that obviously but still it was close I’m not mad at the call at least it’s just game one. Also, looks different to me as the goalie was out of the crease to a much greater extent there and he made an effort to not run directly into him That’s my biggest issue with this. There’s been multiple times something similar happened to hellebuyck this year and it was ruled a goal. If they were actually consistent with this kind of call I think it would he a lot less controversial

GI is called so inconsistently I’m sure you can find multiple examples for similar goals being allowed and disallowed. So can never understand people being so sure their opinion is correct. Idk this one was very borderline to me. It seemed that Kakko was possibly headed into DeSmith regardless, however I can’t tell if it was a given…and he was he was certainly helped by Dumoulin. Defense was there but dman didn’t shove forward, it was a 50-50 battle between dman and forward. So that didn’t affect the Stars Stripes Reproductive Rights 4th of July Strong hand T-Shirt besides I will buy this outcome. You can’t use some contact as an excuse to truck a goalie. You still have to make an effort to get out of the way Kind of thought this would be a “let’s stick with the call on the ice.” Kakko took a steep route and desmith is in his blue but Dumo definitely gives him a bump that gave him no choice but to run him over. Honestly pretty shocked they overturned it. I’ve also seen harder contact from a D-man lead to a GI penalty. See: Point against Florida AND New York last year. the fact that a pens fans and devils fan both thought it was a good goal is pretty fucking damning. I mean, i get it, i can kind of see how a Pens fan would be upset that it’d be called a goal…but jesus christ, that is called a goal 99 times out of 100 The fact that two strangers on the internet with different team flairs say the same thing means the NHL must be rigged in an active conspiracy against my team
