The claimed damages are a made up number, they’ll either settle for a lot less, or the damages found by the court will be a lot less. Insane damages like the Alex Jones stuff are outliers, I don’t think that’ll happen here and they’ll just absorb these costs and move on. Also, there’s a good chance Fox News will win both lawsuits. It’s remarkably difficult to sue the media for defamation. Alex Jones spends $100k a month despite having declared bankruptcy. He claimed outrageous and damaging lies a decade ago and has faced no consequences. That’s your example of the worst that could happen. The guy will never be held accountable, neither will Fox News nor Trump nor anybody on the right. They just run out the clock until they have a favorable judge.
