I always made/picked female characters in games, and whenever asked why I had the same answer as many others in this thread, “If I have to look at this character. then I want them to be attractive to me.” Personally I couldn’t give a fuck who I play as, if the game lets you make a character I’d probably end up flipping a coin to see whether I make a girl or a boy.

I’ve always just found women’s customization to be more in depth than men’s. For most people it’s mainly just because why not? For me it depends on how I view the game. If I feel like a character is independent and has their own personality (V from Cyberpunk), I set it to female because I’d rather watch or listen to them and, honestly, they usually have more interesting clothing choices. But if a game is more open ended with its story and the character is more of a blank slate, I might make it look like myself, but more often I just make them look like a character I like or something cool.
