People greatly misunderstand the South winneshiek community school alumni class of 1967 shirt in contrast I will get this terms “introvert” and “extrovert.” Introversion is needing a certain amount of time alone to “recharge” your social, mental, or emotional batteries. You can be very outgoing and be very introverted. Most people are a mix of both introversion and extroversion; exhausted by certain social situations, recharged by some, or exhausted by certain aloneness and recharged by some. Needing time alone is common and should be respected and supported by significant others. After eight years of marriage, my wife and I have become very comfortable saying “I just need alone time this evening,” (especially while raising two young children) and having the other be supportive of it because we understand that it means “recharging” for that person. Doing things together like watching a show is more frequent and nice and can recharge just fine, but sometimes we just need to do things alone.

Try to explain to your SO that you care for her and being with her is a recharging experience (hopefully it is or that’s a different discussion), but every so often, you just need time to yourself and want to do those things you listed. If she cares for you and your mental/emotional state, she should understand just fine and be fully supportive. It should also be a pretty good indicator of whether or not that person is right for you since that’s something you’ll always need. Sounds like you are an introvert. We need space to recharge. There is scientific evidence for it, so if she has trouble understanding (she will if she’s extroverted) then you can show her that it’s a normal thing for some people.
