Makes perfect sense that it was rejected. It could easily cost that many soldiers lives letting Hamas regroup and move weapons around. The next step is Hezbollah attacks, and Israel is stuck between dealing with that and terrorists who still hold Israeli citizens hostage.

Military action is the only realistic option to release all of them and any ceasefire undermines the momentum. Even if a deal would release all of them, having Hamas on the border and openly declaring that they would repeat the attack, is something that Israelis would never accept, now that Hamas shown they can and will make the threats into reality.
