I know, it struck me as strange too, some people believe in ghosts I guess? The place I’m buying now I would guess the previous owner definitely died in it. It is a probate sale, and there was loads of medical equipment in the photos, including a hospital bed, commode, etc. It didn’t put me off knowing an old person had probably died in it. But I previously pulled out of a viewing of another place after the estate agent let me know that the previous owner killed himself in it. I don’t mind a regular old-age death in a house, but definitely not a murder or suicide. I have no idea why I feel like this though!

I didn’t know until after we bought it. It wouldn’t have affected me buying but I think about it every time I’m out there. That was 40 years ago and it’s still a murder house, it’d be a HUGE factor whether you’d buy the house or not and will affect its value, likely for the next 40 years too. I would say the length of the public’s memory depends on how innocent people view the victim(s) to be. In the example above, an innocent family were raped and murdered in their beds. Rightly or wrongly, that’s going to impact differently than “they were involved in organised crime” if that’s the case here. A house near me was where a murder / suicide took place, it stood empty for a very very long time, it got purchased eventually and then was demolished and something new built in its place. I think some people don’t mind / care, but for a lot of people, knowing somebody was violently killed within a room of the house is a quite unsettling. Even if you don’t have to declare it, it becomes notorious locally. If this case becomes noteworthy within the press once it goes to court you might also find you get unwanted visitors / press for a time. Personally, I wouldn’t buy it.
