Mr. Kennedy sued in federal court, al- leging that the District’s actions violated the First Amendment’s Free Speech and Free Exercise Clauses.“ The beginning of the SC opinion illustrates it as a lone person praying but the students did join the coach, meaning peer pressure was definitely also at play. It’s hairy because if the students prayed without their coach it’d be clearly protected speech. And if the coach prayed by himself it would be reasonably protected.
