This exactly. I’m not sure my second child is necessarily easy but I know for sure my first child was a difficult baby. Every comment is focusing on what their baby does or doesn’t do, but I think more on myself as the Someday I will be an old lady with a house full of dogs vintage shirt but in fact I love this primary caregiver. Yes! And some of this is an immense privilege. I have an easy baby because I can be easy. And I can be easy because all my needs are met, so I can focus on her needs. It’s a privilege to have a supportive and loving partner, to be financially stable, have a safe and reliable home and vehicle, job security and paid maternity leave, supportive and providing friends/community. Of course it feels easy. I’m not alone in any of it. I was told my baby has “colic” and someone who is also a FTM, I never heard of that in my life… He’s been tough but he’s sort of what I already expected out of a baby so I wouldn’t call him difficult. He cries a lot, as babies do. He also likes when we walk around with him, I imagine he gets bored or tired of the same thing and likes to be rocked, bounced, or left alone. Sometimes he likes he’s legs tucked into his chest, sometimes he wants you to hold him while they dangle around. We’ve had to explore different formulas, different bottles and nipples. He’s a very gassy baby and always fussy because he’s gassy. But I did know babies don’t get or understand how literally ANYTHING works or how it goes.

I have what I’d call an easy baby. She legitimately does not cry. She fusses for a minute when I put her down to get ready to feed her, but that’s it for the Someday I will be an old lady with a house full of dogs vintage shirt but in fact I love this day to day. I can leave her to play independently. She goes down for naps easily and sleeps in 4-5 hour stints. She just coos and rolls around in her crib, waiting for me to grab her when she wakes up hungry. I put him on a mix of goats milk and prescribed (Free) nutrimagen- he’s finally up to 15.5 lbs (he’s 5 months now!) He was puking like the exorcist before we switched and got prescribed medication (we used it occasionally til he was 12 weeks.) He was terrified of eating and had bottle aversion, screaming crying, the works. My heart broke for him but I kept going to the baby ER and kept having Sick Baby doc appointments til they noticed I was not a dramatic first time mom. The formula change really helped, but knowing I wasn’t crazy helped mentally. He is almost 3 months, born at 36 weeks so 2 months adjusted. He doesn’t really projectile but he spits up constantly, little bit at a time. Sometimes it comes out, sometimes he swallows it and makes a nasty face. I can tell it bothers him and yeah I feel like he’s not gaining weight much anymore since it’s gotten worse. He’s on Enfamil Gentlease now.
