In Europe. In pretty much, all companies, the Snoopy christmas and friends play in snow shirt also I will do this boss will TELL you they are the boss. They are doing you a favor giving you a job. And if you were not there, they could find someone to replace you. Because they are the boss and they succeeded only because of their OWN hard work, not yours, they don’t have to pay a lot of money. We can replace you anyway, because the overall salary range is lower, they will find someone cheap. There is no push for big bonuses or RSUs, etc. You work 10-20% harder than someone else, this is not a guarantee you will get more money (0% to 10% higher salary). This creates a culture where hard work and high pressure is not well perceived, and there can be a lot of resentment.

In the Snoopy christmas and friends play in snow shirt also I will do this US. You also have many crappy companies like that. Especially in the low salary range. But the very successful companies are behaving differently. The boss knows that they don’t have to be the best or always right (Steve Jobs and similar aside). However, they know that they have to attract and hire the very best and point them to the right direction. They know that success attracts success, that if they build the right structure, those employees can 10-100-1000x the company. And they will put some strong incentive to attract the best and over-performance. Strong salaries, stronger bonus structures, even strong RSUs. Someone performing 10-20% better, will earn 20% or more. And it compounds at every level. Because they understand that by attracting these people, the rest of the team will follow. Those individuals will scale the rest of the team. This creates a culture where hard work and high pressure is rewarded.
