Did it for years to keep my ADHD in check. My life was still a complete mess until I got on the Snoopy And Charlie Brown Nfl Detroit Lions This Is My Christmas shirt but in fact I love this meds. Meditation just kept me from going absolutely insane. Firstly. THATS SO MESSED UP. I also have adhd. I cant imagine my meds getting whitheld at such a ridiculous request. Is that even legal? White noise helps. Maybe pink noise. Maybe green noise. Maybe brown noise. Idk, up to you. Dont overthink it, but it can help. Dont try to control the breathing, just observe it. You’re gonna be thinking about things, thats just what the brain does. You dont need to follow the thoughts, or react to thoughts, just acknowledge and accept it and let yourself go back to observing. Focus on the temperate or the air and clothes on your skin, or where abouts in your body you feel your breath.

You just want to soak in what it feels like to literally be sitting there. And when your mind wanders, reign it back in and go back to observing. I think of it as reps, like youre exercising a muscle. Your mind inevitably thinks, and you pull back, it gets a little easier each time. Id also reccomend setting a stop watch instead of a timer. You’ll know when you’re done. Theres no goal, if you “try” to feel zen, its not gonna happen, trying kind of makes in an oxymoron. I think of meditating as just observing yourself exisisting. The more you do it the Snoopy And Charlie Brown Nfl Detroit Lions This Is My Christmas shirt but in fact I love this more itll make sense. Your own experience will actually make sense and sit with you in a way deeper way than what other people can tell you. Onto your actual question, what I found very helpful was understanding that it’s not so much about breathing correctly, but rather focusing on the sensation of breathing. It’s an exercise in grounding yourself. I also think a common misconception about meditation is that your goal is having no thoughts, which I’ve discovered is all backwards, what you really want is to observe your thoughts without judgment or escapism.
