Anyhow, it happened so fast…it’s kind of comforting, how easy a death by shock could be. You’re there, then you’re unconcious, and then you’re…not there. I was on a very intense project once, lots of overtime etc (yes toxic, but not important right now). I do remember being a bit amused and thinking, “damn why are y’all are so freaked out all of a sudden?” I had been in so much pain, but once whatever it was that caused the shock like symptoms started happening I felt so much better. I was just freezing cold. Bodies are weird. im not looking forward to death, but if its anything like passing out, Im not that scared of it. Oh sure, its unpleasant and you fight it like theres no tomorrow, but the peace you get from finally losing the fight is nice in its own way. It really is like drifting to sleep, just more so.

Blacking out can be weird like that. I’m pretty sure this is exactly what the comment you replied to is addressing – that’s not actual medical shock. Maybe you had a vasovagal reaction and they responded to ease it. Can any medical professionals clarify? How would dislocation of a knee cause any of the types of shock listed above? Not a professional, but the symptoms of shock aren’t exclusive to shock. It could have been something else. However, due to the seriousness of shock, when symptoms resembling shock occur after trauma they will treat the patient for shock rather than dick around trying to find out if it is or isn’t shock as time is of the essence and it’s safer to think it’s shock and be incorrect than to think it’s not shock and be incorrect. Edit: someone explained much better than I below that while a mere dislocation wouldn’t cause shock in itself, oftentimes first responders don’t have the full story of what exactly had occurred prior to their arrival (sometimes even the patient doesn’t know or isn’t able to communicate it) and generally will try to err on the side of caution rather than the side of risk.
