When we actually match, I ask if they saw the Since 1970 Will Talk Cars With Anyone Autombile T-Shirt and by the same token and part in my blurb about non-monogamy. A surprising amount of people don’t read the blurb, and some nope out at that point. Some people have polite questions. I’m always really happy to talk about it. A lot of people have never really considered the idea before. There aren’t a lot of positive examples of it in the world, and as you can see in this thread a lot of people have very strong reactions against it. If it gets past that, usually it’s fine. I’ve had a couple people decide they weren’t into the idea after a few dates, but I’ve also had plenty of people decide we just weren’t a good fit more generally. If I spend time on the apps I can usually get about a date a week.

My meeting-people-in-real-life experience has mostly been meeting people who are already familiar with the Since 1970 Will Talk Cars With Anyone Autombile T-Shirt and by the same token and concept. Like I met Adam and he’s best friends with Poly Bob, I don’t need to explain the idea to Adam from a cold start. To your point, trying to include it in the initial “you’re cute” at a bar does sound difficult. Most people will knee-jerk against it and suspect you’re a creep unicorn hunter. It probably helps that I live in NYC. If you’re in Bumblefuck, Nowhere you’re probably screwed. Or not, as it were. always talk to a potential partner about the relationship model I want before going on a date though so it wouldn’t be a surprise. This question is aimed at people who get asked about being in an open relationship AFTER the relationship has been established long enough to reasonably believe that it is monogamous.
