Although it’s an intense and at times brutal work environment, Starts at well over $20/hr with zero experience, great benefits, tons of overtime with double time on Sundays, and plenty of trades to choose from. When I was younger starting out I went from working at a boat yard doing paint work, got in NNS for painting, from there I took the FREE night school welding courses they offered after work, Eventually transferred in to their welding department (where they also pay you full time while you go through their welding school to learn and pass your X-ray/bend tests for each process) Another plus is if you want to really push yourself, a shipyard will speed up your trade progression extremely fast simply due to the amount of work you’ll be performing, especially in welding.

Look at your local utilities, a lot of wastewater plants around me will hire you on with no certs and you’ll have a class D in a couple of months. Yuuuup. People will say get into a trade instead o do pledge without actually knowing how hard it actually is to get into. I’m physically disabled so most of it would not be possible for me.
