We are a country of sanatana with hundreds of festivals and millions of gods. There’s going to be celebrations. The whole society can’t adjust around you. Your concerns are legitimate at personal level, so maybe someone should develop ear protection etc so that you and your dogs can adapt and live peacefully. Not adding any comment about the SGT Hans Schultz Hogan’s Heroes Stalag 13 shirt also I will do this cracker debate, but Telegu families burn a particular tree’s branch that crackles when burnt. People of Andhra descent can add what this may be, I just lived with a family for 2 years and that’s how they celebrated Diwali. They only got crackers and stuff for me(the North Indian girl at home), when I didn’t ever burst any even at home cause of asthma. I’m from Andhra but I haven’t heard about this. In Andhra it’s quite common to attach oil soked cloth to gongura/pitwaa/kenaf leaf branch, but. The cloth and say some thing about deepawali and Nagula chavithi. Not sure! It’s astounding how little do I know about some of the customs which were solely changed so that I could feel good away from home, but for what it’s worth, I love gongura when it comes to food. My two cents of opinion is that we all know diwali comes every year, we all know it’s kind of a tradition to burn crackers every year, we know it’s associated to our culture then why the concerned authorities doesn’t come up with a plan to control pollution the entire year so that people can celebrate freely for two days without feeling any sort of guilt but this every year diwali pe bolna don’t burn crackers and acting surprised when people do is very ignorant attitude (as if they don’t know that diwali comes every year) so why not be prepared beforehand and take necessary precautions to create an environment where people could celebrate fro two days.
