As long as I’m passing folks, I’ll stay in the Serena Williams Wheaties Tennis Player Champs Shirt and I love this left lane. I may not be passing as fast as someone behind me wants to go, but as long as I’m passing, I consider it ok to stay there. I never drive under the speed limit. I’m usually a bit over it and hover around the overall prevailing speed, not the outlier speedsters or the poky folks. Once I get past, I move over and let the speeding folks pass. (I’m already up to 5 over the speed limit, they’re usually doing 10 or more over) In my part of the US, there are interstates with only 2 lanes each way, but the right lane has entrances and exits so frequently, that if you get into it, you get trapped. IOW, those roads often have too much volume for the number of lanes. No one wants to be in the right lane until they absolutely have to exit, then they’ll do the “fight” to move over.

Couple this with my mildly shitty vision (poor depth perception), swapping lanes in high volume traffic can be scary. To try to triangulate where others are takes me too long, so it would slow people down worse if I tried to lane swap frequently to get out of people’s way. The traffic volume is too high for two lanes and the Serena Williams Wheaties Tennis Player Champs Shirt and I love this frequency of entrances and exits for the right lane, means that if you move over, you’re stuck going too slow to get back over. Plus semi’s clogging up the right lane and they can’t maintain speed due to heavy loads and the hills. This is exactly my response except for me ADHD rather than a vision problem. I have to process the fact that the person is coming up fast, process where all of the other cars are in the scenario and whether I have room to move over, and then process whether or not the fast guy is so impatient he is already passing me on the right so I don’t merge into him trying to move over. Honestly, anyone who is so self important and impatient that backing off to a mere 10-15 miles over the speed limit while my brain does that work has a personality flaw that impairs their driving decisions. I will move over once I can determined it’s safe to do so if they don’t screw that up by passing on the right to prevent one millisecond of inconvenience on their part. I always speed, and your points one and two are the only reasons I’m ever even in the left lane.
