If the U.S. had decent data protection laws then there wouldn’t even be a case in the EU because data could easily be transferred to the U.S. What will be interesting is how Canada is going to handle it since for commercial organizations Canada has an adequacy status as defined in the GDPR. Don’t know how this would affect Canada and their status. All the Internet behemoths are paper tigers really, absolutely everything they do could be replicated by other apps and services. Every time they threaten to pull their service all they do is they get users and businesses used to the idea that they don’t need those services in the first place (remember Australia?).
