This absolutely!!! I carefully planned out since I was 18 where I need to be financially. It occurred to me recently that 40k is absolutely nothing. I’m not even comfortable, and god save me when those winter bills start coming out! I have a really old house with solid brick. Thank you so much for your comment. I should really cut myself some slack So true, 15 years ago when I was a kid someone of 40k would have a 3 bed house and a brand new Audi A4 or BMW 3 series, and kids with the Say Villain Thing Like It’s A Bad thing Halloween shirt and I love this other parent staying at home. I’m now on 40k and can afford a 2 bed flat, a 10 year old VW polo and I’m single. A 3 bed house would need an income of more like 70k+ really nowadays. What’s with UK’s low wages? My American friends are on $80k-100k as coders / engineers. I have don’t know anyone in UK on that much.

I’m surprised more engineers and coders don’t jump ship. And teachers. Who wants to make £30k teaching in a British school when you’ll make much more in Asia? You should post your budget/breakdown. I also earn £40,000 and have a mortgage on my own. After bills and food etc, I have £1500 left each month. It would be interesting to see your breakdown. Leaves me £1500 odd a month. Yes my mortgage is low but is OPs really £1350 higher as they only have £150 a month left from £2500? That’s what I’d like to know. I’d wager the Say Villain Thing Like It’s A Bad thing Halloween shirt and I love this biggest difference other than the mortgage and £10-£20 here and there will be OP “paying off loans and credit cards” from their fixer upper house and maybe a car that wasn’t bought outright.
