My grandma did have a heart attack right after it once. Pretty scary stuff, but at least she waited until after it was over Probably harder to say that situations warranting a call to emergency services dropped. Less people out drinking, driving, etc.. rather if people are sitting on the Save A Turkey Eat A Pickles Thanksgiving Costume Pumpkins T-Shirt in contrast I will get this couch watching tv, then they do less stupid shit that brings them to require immediate ambulance. In this case though, I would bet it is more aligned with a reduction in Domestic Violence which always escalates during the holidays. And Norway. In my family we even watch the Swedish version because it hadn’t been dubbed to Norwegian yet when dad grew up I guess. So he kept that tradition going. We also watch a Czechoslovak Cinderella movie from 1973, dubbed entirely by a single man who’s just yelling over the regular Czech audio. Christmas traditions sound weird when you explain them… My family loves this cartoon, especially my uncle. His absolute favorite part was the candle lighting at the beginning of the cartoons. Sadly he passed last Sunday, but I’m glad I found this post. It gives me another fond memory of him. I miss him so much I’m Norwegian, and we have the same exact special on for Christmas in Norway, only at 2pm on NRK. Yet, every year for as long as I can remember my family has been watching “Kalle Ankas jul” on SVT at 3pm. It was like that when I was a child, and I’ve carried the tradition with me as an adult. Swedish translations were so much better than Norwegian back when these movies were made. What’s this Christmas special without “Kom igen katten, det svänger ju!”, “…fast hon var en ko.”, “Ja, vem kör egentligen?” or that weird but strangely awesome rendition of “Ser du stj¨ärnan i det blå”?

The show is meant to be watched in Swedish. Watching it on NRK at 2pm should be considered an affront to Christmas. This is my hill I’m willing to die on. We watch both in my family, and surely we’re not the Save A Turkey Eat A Pickles Thanksgiving Costume Pumpkins T-Shirt in contrast I will get this only ones. First the Norwegian version, then straight over to the Swedish one. Most of the old clips are different, and some can be easily be seen twice in a row. Also, I know someone work the ER and she can tell if the if the national football team is playing simply looking at the amount of patients that comes in. Nothing is severe enough to miss the game! We moved to Sweden from the USA and it’s been.. interesting.. trying to blend together Christmas for our kid. Kalle Anka is now part of the tradition, and we’ve had to make some kind of crazy Christmas canon allowing for white and green skinny Swedish Tomten and the fat Coca Cola American Santa. Between that and the easter baskets being gigantic eggs here we have a Tolkien level folklore happening.
