Then you have another grouo of citizens that sacrificed luxuries and niceties for years to pay back debt. Maybe they went for public not private udnergrad to save or got worse grades so they could find time for a job to pay back loans and their opportunities are less now. They have no house, no vacations, maybe put off children or marriage bevause of it. Meanwhile they have colleagues that ignored their responsibility and instead married, had kids, bought houses with some expectation of being saved by this loan forgiveness. The group that paid off their loans won’t just be sour grapes people that wish ill on their neighbours. People that paid off student loans over say the last 10 or 20 years get screwed in a lot of ways. Housing is first and foremost. You couldn’t save up for a house because you were paying off student loans. Now you can but the market is horrible. Student loan forgiveness gives a whole bunch of people the ability to all of a sudden compete with you on an already unaffordable market making it even worse. This goes for about anything though. Inflation. It’s already bad. Forgiving student loans makes it even worse by giving more people more money in their pockets. It sounds stupid but that is how it works. I get it. Student loans suck. They are ridiculous and higher education was oversold to millions of us. There needs to be a better solution than absolution for a large group one time. Are you just going to keep forgiving student loans forever? I get that people want free higher education as well, but that is a different issue too.
