And transport in Riga is subsidised from taxes, while TfL does not receive any subsidies. It is, yet companies want employees to pay 10 quid a day just to warm up the seats in the office yet won’t pay more. TFL is the only capital public transport service which is not subsidised and which is not allowed to fund itself via other types of investments (in some countries the public transport company often owns the buildings the stations are in and use those to make income)

Suspect it’s one of the Santa Grinch Minnesota Vikings Christmas 2023 Shirt and by the same token and highest quality public transport systems in a expensive city with high per capita income. Expensive for sure but does deliver for the most part, which in my experience is rare for a network of this size. It’s so funny I’ve just looked at my Monzo annual trends and even though I work from home and haven’t attended the office every day this year, TfL is still the company I’ve spent the most money with… that’s including groceries, favourite social spots, all sorts Everything in London is relatively expensive to other parts of the world. Can’t imagine any business to run here with cheap prices. At the same time, the quality of TFL is pretty good. Personally I don’t feel like I’m “pushed” to use public transport instead of a car, I actually enjoy it. TfL is mostly on time yes but god it’s awful with the dust and noise, sitting in a Chinese tube with aircon and 5G is like living in a 5 star hotel compared to the Uk tube. Even tube in italy was better lol and don’t get me started on trains lol. Their trains are so clean and nice. Ours is cramped and okd TfL is dirt cheap compared to all other public transport in the UK. Comparing countries is useless because the cost of living differs dramatically but compared to other UK transport TfL is pennies. I cap myself at £6 per day – and push through barriers when I reach my limit. Not paying £13 a day just to move around town.
