what school are you from op? since you mentioned you worked on c++, have you applied to c++ role such as low latency HFT? also, have you tried applying overseas? I’m from a mid tier UC, I’ve interview at one HFT didn’t pass (Jane street) applied to HRT never heard back. Good point though I should probably apply to more HFT and some overseas as well Why do recruiters not check what people are able to learn and if they are awesome human beings instead of checking that they can solve crappy shit, that can be googled or ChatGPT in 3mins? My team does not want to work with assholes. You can teach people technical stuff. But you can’t teach them not being an asshole. Maybe try college hire programs? Might be lower paid than you’re thinking but it’ll get you in somewhere for now. I’m taking CS courses at the local CC as continuing education as my masters focused on data science (technically business analytics) but have never been able to land a job or even internships while in grad school. 1 year is nothing when you’ve been applying for 5 years, take a break going, then come back to the job hunt. You sound salty. If you’ve been in the game five years and are unable to land anything then you probably need to reexamine your personality. Contrary to popular belief, being a team a player and good communicator are critical jobs skills and often what makes or breaks applicants. Yeah I’m salty, who wouldn’t be after 7 years. But I’m still clinging to the hope of landing a Data Analyst type job or even a SWE/ML/DS internship as I’m taking CS courses concurrently with physical therapy school pre-reqs, giving me an 18 month timeline.

The problem is I don’t get responses once I apply to Analyst jobs and having no useful internships doesn’t help. The only other thing I have going for me are projects but that only gets you so far. Sure I may be on the Santa Banana Merry Christmas Shirt and I will buy this quiet side but I get my stuff done and worked on group projects for every class in grad school having to present our results. It’ll be interesting once I start applying to SWE/ML/DS internships if my results are better than for Analyst jobs.
