12 hr. agoIf you eat your food and then hang around for hours just drinking tap water by yourself, that would be odd but it’s generally allowed. If you switch up and buy bottled water it would be less weird as you’re still actively purchasing items. Note that if frequent a place often and order something cheap like a burger and fries for $8 and tip $2 thinking that’s a 25% tip, you’re going to be viewed poorly. All these things are allowed but could possibly be uncomfortable. At our weekly staff meetings it was the ongoing complaint from all of us waitresses. So management made the decision to start charging for water. It was a minimal amount. After about a month, we switched from charging for water to a “one drink minimum” policy. It wasn’t perfect, but worked better.
