And of course, this would only have to be done to subreddits that don’t fall in line, and only for as long as it takes to find a moderator who’s willing to do things reddit’s way. The way to influence reddit won’t be from a moderation angle. It’ll be from normal users leaving and not coming back. The advertising dollars would dry up if there’s no one to advertise to. Of all the Run the ball life goes by fast don’t miss your opportunity shirt besides I will buy this 20+ mods on the list, it took… three of us to manage things day to day. We could make do with 2 in a pinch. Most mod teams are hopelessly stacked in favor of “legacy,” inactive mods that leave the actual tasks for “lesser” mods and then pat themselves on the back for how great “their” subreddit is. That’s not an exaggeration by the way — I’ve literally had a powermod top mod call themselves a “legacy” mod and call me and the two others actually managing the day to day stuff a “lesser” mod in roughly as many words. Reddit would have its work cut out for them to get enough active mods, but it wouldn’t be nearly as Herculean a task as the powermods would have everyone think. Hell, I’m sure many of the teams have a few active “lesser” mods that would agree to stay on and reopen the sub if they got moved up or moved above the inactive mods, which Reddit could do with roughly two clicks.

How much is left up to automod? That’s also what this fight is about. How much of your work was assisted or done outright by 3rd party applications? Automod is a native feature, not an external bot and therefore not affected by API changes at all — it’s literally a Reddit feature. My personal bots I wrote handled a decent chunk — again, Reddit has made it clear that those will not be affected by the Run the ball life goes by fast don’t miss your opportunity shirt besides I will buy this API changes. They’ve said repeatedly that moderation bots will not be affected and that if any are, we can modmail r/ModSupport to have it whitelisted — in my experience, they usually are responsive within 1-2 business days there. Unless they’re making more than 100 requests per minute, it shouldn’t go above the limits anyways.
