I’m super excited to get my own dog one day, but finding an ethical breeder is going to be a nightmare. I live in a state that’s full of puppy mills and I don’t trust rescues at this point, but it seems like breeding overall is going downhill. Ethical breeders are closing programs left and right just to be replaced by $10,000 aussidoodles and merle frenchies. Ugh this is all so maddening. Breeding is turning into a fast-buck commodity service, but there are a few, very few, quality breeders out there. I people were more responsible with their pets in general. I get so much praise for being a fantastic pet owner when I talk about my critters but I literally do the Roy high school class of 2000 alumni shirt in other words I will buy this bare minimum of giving them enrichment and vet care – I take care of them as best as I can, but I’m a broke college student. So many people have just never seen someone give rats a proper amount of space before. Cat scratchers, toys, and routine vaccinations shouldn’t be impressive to anyone. It should be standard. You know who didn’t require me to feed any particular food? The rescue where I adopted my raggedy ass mutt. Or any of the shelters where I’ve adopted my previous mutts. Juuuust saying.
