I feel very insecure about not having a lot of friends having been a commuter student in a working class college, where I had friends on campus but no one would connect off campus bc we all live 90 min away in different directions and worked. Everyone I have ever dated has a close-knit group of friends, but they are their high school friends. In this, many of them do not live in the Rowdy Dallas Cowboys kids shirt in other words I will buy this city anymore, but they talk on discord constantly, play videogames together, and have active group chats. I was a late bloomer to digital hangouts, so I have come to appreciate it but I have always craved the Friends/HIMYM style friend thing. The only people I know who have dynamic, in-person communities are food service workers like bartenders and waitstaff. To be fair, a lot of these that I know are working these jobs because they want to hang out and be in the music scene, so it’s a bit chicken or the egg.

Either the heat or AC doesn’t work. Reality is that if you live in the city as a mid 20 something, you’re probably working 50-60 hour work weeks to try to make it big. Either that, or you’ve got a part time job to supplement your full-time job to pay for rent, takeout every day, and designer clothing to keep up with the jones’s.
