The union negotiated with ATT to get him an extra $500 a month from ATT for the Robb elementary school texas Pray For Texas pray for the victims Robb Elementary School shooting T-shirt In addition,I will do this rest of his life as long as his income never exceeds $3000 per month. TLDR: Be Pro Union. Nothing involving humans is perfect but it’s definitely better than trusting the rich to be nice The worst and most damaging thing unions have done to this country. Their existence hampers the creation of new and better laws to protect all workers. First because instead of workers lobbying politicians for change nationwide they do this local half-assed joke of a solution instead. Secondly it becomes easy to say “I’m not passing a law to fix a problem if it will making Business mad at me. If it’s really that bad they can just unionize”. Every union I have dealt with has been awful. Some of them do things that are probably illegal. Or maybe more likely those things aren’t illegal but should be. The problems with unions is that they empower people who have insufficient education or moral standing to negotiate (with people indifferent to morality) the rules. Having said all that. Unions were an answer to a problem. A better answer would have been laws that would have protected everyone, not just union members.

More than just the pay. Brother is in an ATT union as one of those guys in the retail stores eith the tablets that try to sell you service. Was there maybe a year and had a stroke in his sleep. Not on the job at home in his bed. Mostly paralyzed on his left side. The union walked him through getting government disability and taking full advantage of grants etc related to disabilities. Nothing involving humans is perfect but it’s definitely better than trusting the rich to be nice. Without unions, what incentive is there to create better laws, or better pay, or better working conditions for the workers? Unions raise the wages and working conditions of non union jobs too, because if the union starts paying more with better working conditions, other employers in the same industry need to increase pay and working conditions or else no one will be willing to work for them. Tech workers were able to work from home during the pandemic and if you can 100% work from home, you can be off-shored. I hope this doesn’t bite us in the ass. Um. I understand that change needs to start somewhere, but holding out for unions to sprout up in South America, India and China while our unemployment numbers skyrocket feels like idealistic self-harm.
